Timeline Update & Mount Mechanics Playtest
24 days ago – Tue, Mar 10, 2026 at 08:10:50 AM

Howdy Folks! Been a while since we've seen eachother on the trail! We want to stop by, give you all an update on our timeline, and give you some much-awaited content with the playtest-ready version of our Mount Mechanics!

To start it off with a bang (how we tend to do things around here), you can find the link to our Mount Mechanics here:

REXFALD MOUNT MECHANICS PLAYTEST

Timeline Updates

We're getting close to releasing the Alpha for our Core Book in about a month, so I wanted to give y'all an update on our timeline and address what our release schedule looks like.

Our original digital fulfillment date of December 2025 was a bit quick on the trigger, and since then the scope, scale, and overall quality of the book has increased exponentially beyond the scope of our original campaign. We've brought on industry-leading artists, pursued a greater quantity of art with those artists, and added in many extra cryptids, guns, monsters, mounts, and other bonuses beyond our original offer. Naturally these inclusions extend our fulfillment dates, but rest assured that Rexfald is still very much just over the horizon!

As such, our current fulfillment timeline is listed below:

Core Book Alpha: Mid April 2026

Core Book Beta: July 2026

Campaign Adventure Alpha: Released sequentially as chapters are Alpha-ready, beginning in Mid-Summer, 2026.

Core Book Completed: August 2026

Campaign Adventure Beta: October 2026

Campaign Adventure Completed: December 2026

Physical Fulfillment: Q1 of 2027

These are our finalized dates for the fulfillment of Rexfald. I wanted to start off with these brass-tacks so you guys know we're no-nonsense with keeping y'all updated with our fulfillment of Rexfald!

Thank you all for being patient as we finish up the Alpha content for the Core Book and the Campaign Adventure, you all make this trail worth walkin!

Bullet Dice Update

*Note: Steel dice are blanks made as a test of the molding process. Final dice will all be brass.*
Size may not matter, but caliber certainly does.

The bullet dice are currently molded and have entered printing, production, and final inking of the numbers. There are a LOT of dice to make, so it'll take just a moment longer, but we will have final versions of these to share very soon!

Frontier Towns and Territories Update

Old Huesal is the liveliest ghost town around, and if you ask any of the residents their thoughts they're liable to tell you: "Dyin' is the easy part, it's the livin' on that's hard."
The Elemental Plain of Steam is a boiling ocean trawled by ironclad steamers that hop island-to-island in an elaborate network of elemental plantations.

Right now, I am happy to share that the art for every town in the core book is COMPLETED (feel free to pop off a couple of shots in celebration). There's still some more content to finalize, but I'm happy to reveal that before long you'll have a whole frontier to explore at you leisure!

Mounts and Monsters Update

The Copsen is a cloned herd of arboreal mounts connected through a telepathic network of delicate root systems. Known to protect vulnerable woodlands from the cursed influences of cryptids, these primordial wardens are known protectors of natural beauty and ecological stability.
When a creature partakes in the consumption of one of its kin, it can become infested with a cryptid spirit that hides in the darkness of the victim's organs. Over time, the spirit grows larger until it consumes the soul of its host - triggering a transformation of the victim into a wendigo. Wendigo seek to spread ravenous hunger across the frontier, looking to propagate more of their kin to themselves feast upon to quiet their own hunger for even a fleeting moment.

A quick update on our Mount and Monster completion percentages. As of today, we have art and stat blocks completed for ALL mounts (you can find them in the Mount Mechanics update page).  In addition, about 50% of all monster art, and 90% of monster stat blocks are alpha-ready at this time for BOTH books. More updates on this content will follow as chapters of Bounties of The Highwayman are released in the future.

You can find all of these mounts in our Mount Mechanics folder HERE.

The Final Frontier Species & Thank You

The Ma'yee are a species of cryptid tricksters that revel in terrifying the arrogant and uplifting the brave. Originally beings born of sunlight, they were banished by dragons into the darkness of the cryptic world for gambling -  a vice which many dragons grapple with to this day.

As a thank-you for your support, we have decided to add a special Magnificent Seventh species to Rexfald, which will appear as a player option in Bounties of The Highwayman. We wanted to include this as a thank-you gift to our wonderful community that has been so supportive of us as we continue to make the wildest content for you possible. If you want to help playtest this species when it drops in 1 week, come join our Discord Server to stay in the loop!

Shout-Out: Idols of The Neon Dark

As many of you know, we don't do shout-outs often unless it's a good friend of ours or we really believe in the campaign: with this one, it's both! Our friend Dan Thut is making an AMAZING adaptation of a certain Killer-Pop aesthetic that we are happy to endorse! Their campaign is LIVE, so please go support them (if you aren't already a megafan, of course)!

Playtest #2 And Some Merry Christmas Wishes!
3 months ago – Wed, Dec 24, 2025 at 06:05:53 PM

Ho-Ho-Howdy everyone! We hope you are all enjoying your holiday season! We just wanted to drop a quick update at the end of the year with some fun little presents to try out in your own games!

The Link to the Playtest (And Playtest #1) can be found here:

THE GUNSLINGER'S GUIDE TO REXFALD PLAYTEST MATERIALS

Also, a couple of quick updates on the Core Book.

All 6 Frontier Species Are Ready For Playtesting!

The Sasquatch have long managed the frontier secretly from the shadows, but with homesteaders encroaching further and further into the woods, these giants are finally ready to step into the light (or shadows at the very least).

While more lore for these frontier species is coming on the horizon, give them a play in your own games! This playtest sees the inclusion of the shadowy giant Sasquatch and many of their cryptid brethren, the release of the sun-scaled Toketl and their complex tribal cultures, and the reveal of the Zundor, a fey-descended race of buzzard-people with a connection to eclipses.

Our Final Frontier Subclasses Are Now Revealed!

Warlocks that follow the Lodge Patron join a secretive society of believers in which each warlock is Patron to all others. Elder councils dictate the will of the masses, and warlocks act as agents in the world - twisting the frontier to their will!

The biggest (and on a personal note, proudest) achievement for this playtest is the final reveal and inclusion of the last 18 subclasses for the Endless Frontier! Each of the 36 revealed will appear in The Gunslinger's Guide to Rexfald and we really hope you enjoy the options we've made for all of you! Each has a unique playstyle that I hope brings your own personal Frontier Fantasy to life! Of special note: I hope you all enjoy some of the more "twisted" and "evil" options we've included for subclasses like Pioneer Ranger, Lodge Patron Warlock, and College of Conduits Bard!

Named Spells From The Frontier's Most Legendary Spellslingers!

Margrave's Flaming Spurs is just about the pinnacle of ranger mount magic, able to teleport a rider and their steed swiftly in a roar of flame to rescue folk in danger, cut-off foes, and deliver medicine swiftly across the frontier to those in need. Unfortunately, the man who invented it mainly uses the spell to skip town and avoid paying his bar tabs.

We have quite a few new spells added to this playtest, each of which is a signature spell created by a legendary Duster in their travels across the frontier. While not all have a spellcaster name quite yet, we hope you enjoy their unique designs and fun playstyles!

Guns! Glorious Guns! Scratch that Itchy Trigger Finger and Let Some Lead Fly!

The Barbarian's Friend: Believe it or not, this is the merciful option for most barbarians.

This playtest features an all-new selection of frontier firearms to try out at your table! I hope this selection of 10 firearms feels strong in the hand while we complete the remainder of our arsenal!

Future Expectations

In the coming weeks, keep engaged with us on our Discord server to discuss your thoughts and opinions on the content. We plan to put out a full survey for the content from the first 2 playtests in about a month. We'll take feedback from this survey and adapt it into a final playtest for the core book with all the content. Mount Mechanics will release in a smaller update around the same time for those who are waiting for a chance to really wrangle with that content!

We expect to start providing alpha copies of The Gunslinger's Guide to Rexfald (The Core Book) around March. Keep an eye out for all that content!

6 months ago – Wed, Oct 15, 2025 at 04:29:00 PM

Howdy ya'll! We hope you've been enjoying the beginning of Fall and the lead-up to Halloween!

Backerkit Pledge Manager Final Update

A quick reminder for everyone to fill out your information for the Backerkit Pledge Manager. The Pledge Manager will officially close on November 1st and charge cards on the same day. We wanted to give a quick update on that, so we can get everyone set up and ready for our distribution next year! Prison Dungeon Beta: Calurosa Sanitarium

Now for the fun stuff! In the spirit of the season, we've been hard at work crafting the four Prison Dungeons we unlocked through our 1,000 backer milestone, and we're proud to announce that our first Prison Megadungeon Calurosa Sanitarium, will be released in Beta on October 27th! This is a real chance to play some of Rexfald with your players in a horror-themed megadungeon with 40+ Rooms, 12+ NPCs, and 10+ Monsters straight from the BOTH book. This content will be available for ALL BACKERS (even if you didn't back the Campaign Adventure) so that you can all have a Wild West dungeon to explore in the spirit of this spooky season!

Calurosa Sanitarium is a level 8 dungeon designed for 3-6 players to complete over 2-3 sessions of play. It will come with a full 68x132 tile map that will release with this dungeon (and all future rexfald dungeons). Keep an eye out for when that becomes available in 2 weeks!

Medullia de Salle loves getting to know better the new arrivals to the asylum. After all, most are going to be here until the day they die.
Boomstick is an eccemar well-feared for his fighting abilities. Following a harrowing battle, he developed a split personality where be believed he was actually a gun! Funny if you're just some average homesteader, terrifying if you happen to develop the psychic power to pop heads at the same time.
Spirit Skeletons are the venerated dead of long-lost heroes and villains. Their bones are inscribed with divine runes that allows their spirit to re-inhabit their remains on special holidays. For some, it's a good excuse to connect with your new great-great-great-great-great-grandson. For others, it's a good excuse to settle an eons-old vendetta with the brother buried next to you.

Some Other Updates

We have continued work on the core book (The Gunslinger's Guide to Rexfald) over the past few months, and progress is sure and steady! We are looking at getting the Beta out in late December/Early January, with the final version printing and shipping in late March of 2026. The Campaign Adventure (Bounties of The Highwayman) will enter Beta around March/April of 2026, with a final release around August of 2026.

I just wanted to give a quick update that work is continuing and coming along nicely! I'm sharing below a couple of updates on certain elements of the Core book and their completion.\

The Arsenal of our Frontier Firearms continues to grow each day

The lichfield repeater is feared and respected amongst Dusters. "The surest way to make sure your opponent stays dead."
Undertow firearms are the salvaged remains of a collection of powerful firearms that was once thought lost to the depths of Lake Boaz following the unfortunate sinking of the FSS Fitzmund in a freak storm. Now, their gunmetal is hallowed for its effect over wind and tide; gunslingers clearing the skies with a shot or summoning whirlpools with a spin of the cylinder.
In the frozen lands of Great Nuniat, Hoarfrost Flintlocks are famed for both their reliability and lethality. Where other barrels snap and break, these weapons only improve the harsher the cold gets.

Towns and Cities are populating and getting settled across the Frontier

In the heart of the Cinnebar Cenote lies the frontier tradepost of Tribute, a young city that has grown up around an oasis amongst the serpentine canyons and bleached badlands of northern Mahetchee. The ancient temple at its heart has been inhabited by dozens of cultures over thousands of years; the population of the city still reflects these cultural roots.
The City of Spite, Grace's Wound is founded in fracture of crags that cleaves through the permafrost that blankets Great Nuniat. Controlled by vying clans of Dwarves and Elves known as the Barrows and the Montkankers, the city constantly erupts into colorful clan-wars and age-old vendettas that can turn red-hot at the drop of a hat.

More Dusters enter the Endless Frontier! The final book will contain 40 subclasses; with a couple classes gaining a special 4th subclass as our thanks to you!

The College of Conduits is an eclectic college of Bards that draws musical power through powerful cursed instruments. Some of these bards craft their own instruments, imbuing them with an arcane power unique to them; others are gifted their conduits, winning them in bouts of skill or receiving them from divine orchestras.
The Oath of the Courier is a divine calling taken up by those Paladins who deliver divine messages and ensure that their god always shows up on time. They are tasked with delivering relics across dangerous lands, or indeed to deliver the dour news of a death to the loved one of the fallen.

Wild West Playtest #1 is Live! Towns, Species, Subclasses, Monsters, Guns, Spells and More!
8 months ago – Sat, Aug 16, 2025 at 12:36:43 PM

Howdy ya'll! We're excited to announce that our first Wild West Playtest is LIVE! A Google Drive link will then be shared with you with all of the playtest content!

After accessing the Google Drive, you will see all of the content in PDF form. From there, feel free to take a look through and see a window into a ton of stuff that we've been hard at work making for you all!

If you are having trouble with the link, the direct access can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc5mSFZaY-O7XFGL7qT4UEe0NonOyYe-EGe1INXrlK2BYErJg/viewform?usp=dialog

What We Have in Store

The Playtest contains a plethora of content, including...

🏠 2 Unique Wild Western Towns and Territories 🏠

The Flume City of Vallencamp lies at the heart of the territory of West Clark. Far away from other towns, it serves as a beacon of amber-lit civilization amongst the encroaching darkness of the Cryptic World.

🧙‍♂️ 18 Inventive Wild Western Subclasses 🧙‍♂️

Warriors of The Saddle build an unbreakable bond with a Mystic Mount, walking the path to enlightenment hand-in-hoof with their companion.

🐴 3 Of The Wildest Species You Ever Did See 🐴

The Eccemar are an equine species hell-bent on glory and a good fight. Famed for their skill with all weapons, the appearance of a single Eccemar can turn the tide of battle - just hope that they're on your side.

💀 18 Monsters From The Darkest Corners of The Frontier 💀

The Ogua is a dark bayou predator that hunts using bioluminescent bacteria that grow in its mouth to mesmerize its prey, while the other mouth eats away at the helpless victim.

🏇 8 Mounts To Ride Across The Frontier🏇

Following the discovery of Mount Magic, folk from across the frontier traded in their horses for more exotic rides. Those horses found without a home were sent to abattoirs to be rendered down en masse. A group of druids disgusted by the mass culling attempted to revive the now pasted ponies, resulting in the first glair to rise from the sticky soup that was rendered from their bones.

🔫 22 Fantasy Frontier Firearms 🔫

When Moonshine Druids eventually found themselves outgunned by the law, they asked sympathetic gunsmiths for a way to protect their business. The Bootlegger was the 600 RPM answer to that question.

🧙‍♀️ 26 Powerful New Spells 🧙‍♀️

Even against the fearsome force of a Fireball, Steady keeps a wizard and their mount upright when they need it the most.

What's the Objective?

The objective of the first playtest is to get a pulse on the community's feelings for our design. We chose to primarily showcase subclasses, species, guns, spells, mounts and other player options so that we can optimize them for player fun! We also included some DM-focused sections with the Towns and Monsters so that you can start getting a feel for the setting and setting up some encounters!

As you engage with the playtest, use it like you would any other content! Use it in-setting or outside of it! Try it out with one-shots, adventures, or entire campaigns! This content was made because of your support, and we hope you enjoy it!

Future Expectations

In the coming weeks, keep engaged with us on our Discord server to discuss your thoughts and opinions on the content. We will make regular releases of scenarios and encounters over there with maps and special content to really dial in the design.

For those of you who play with the 2014 rule set, we will be releasing a version with 2014 rules in the future. Expect that sometime within the next month in a specific PDF.

In about 2 weeks, an official survey will go live for feedback on the playtest and the different inclusions within it. Feel free to give your thoughts and opinions over there in addition to staying active on our Discord during the playtest!
